Electrodes & Accessories
There are many different uses for an electrode in patient care, ranging from diagnostic applications to electrotherapy. Electrodes come in many different shapes, sizes and designs to suit their specific purpose.
What is an electrode, exactly? It is best described as an adhesive pad that is placed on the skin, and acts transmitter of electrical current either to or from the body. As a diagnostic tool, electrodes can measure electric pulses from the body and transmit that data to diagnostic machine. When used in electro therapy, electrodes serve to pass electric current to the body to help rehabilitate muscles and ease pain.
Electrode placement will depend on its use. Electro therapy typically requires electrodes to be placed at the area that needs to be stimulated, and different electrodes are available to make this easier based on their needed placement. Diagnostic electrode placement will depend on the procedure and what is being measured, which is often the heart’s electrical activity.
A high-quality electrode is one that retains its adhesiveness, does not absorb moisture, conforms well to body contours and takes accurate electrical measurements. Electrodes are by their nature non-permanent items that degrade after enough use, so durability is also very important. Some are designed for one-time use while others are designed for extended use, or multiple uses.
Whatever the purpose may be, these devices are designed to serve a very sensitive purpose that requires proper preparation. Conductive gel is commonly used to facilitate superior transmission of electrical current and high-quality electrodes will be able to remain tacky and adhered to the skin whether they are pre-gelled or require gel to be applied separately.
Our line of electrodes and conductive gels are priced with you in mind, because we understand the utmost need for quality in home healthcare products that are offered at a reasonable price.
