2016 Winner - Grace Buzas
Grace Buzas grew up in Michigan, but relocated to Massachusetts for nursing school at Salem State University. From her time as a nurses aide and a LPN, she developed a deep fondness for caring for the elderly. After graduation, she hopes to work in an ICU to master nursing skills and continue her learning. Back home in Michigan, she has a very supportive family who was there for her many stressful nights while she obtained her LPN, and still remain very supportive. And nearby in New York, she has a very understanding boyfriend who very graciously helps her study and plays the pretend role of a patient very well. She feels blessed with the opportunity to continue her education and become the best nurse she can.
2015 Winner - Allison Smith
Our 2015 scholarship recipient is Allison Smith from Tampa, Florida. She is the youngest of three siblings. In 2009, her mom moved their family to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a career in the nursing field. Inspired by her mom, she is currently a student at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia where she is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Her future goals are to become a Registered Nurse, gain experience in the health field, and later pursue her Master of Science in Nursing and become a Nurse Practitioner.
2014 Winner - Rebekah Nation
Rebekah is from Atlanta and is a senior at Emory University’s Neil Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. After attaining her first bachelor’s degree in biology, she joined the Army as a Preventative Medicine Specialist. She was called up to active duty where she served as a liaison for wounded warriors at the Human Resources Command. After completing a year of active duty, she returned to Georgia and began working as an EMT. Through her experiences in EMS, she learned more about the role of the nurse, and learned that nursing was where she wanted to take her career. She plans to work as an RN in the Marcus Trauma Center upon graduating from nursing school and obtaining her license.
