Bathroom Safety Made Easy with Carex

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), about 235,000 people are injured while using the bathroom each year. That is a large number of people; and when it comes to dealing with a senior that is injured it can get serious. Studies done at the University of Rochester Medical Center have shown that adults who are over 70 years old are three times more likely to die following a low-level fall, which accounts for the nearly 32,000 deaths that happen yearly.

We all know that the bathroom can be treacherous; hard surfaces and wet areas are a recipe for disaster. So what can we do to help mitigate potential fall hazards and dangerous conditions?

I posed this question to Andy Podsiadlo from Compass Health. He told me about a few items from the thousands that they carry that can help lower fall risks in the bathroom.

The first item up is the Carex E-Z Lock Raised Toilet Seat with adjustable arm rests.

This toilet assist is perfect for anyone that is having trouble bending fully or sitting. The seat elevates the user an additional 5 inches in height for easily. The round comfortable seat was designed to work with your preexisting seat, fits most standard round toilets, and has a weight capacity of 300 lbs.

The Carex model installs securely with three easy steps in less than a minute with the patented secure lock system to make you feel safe. It also features adjustable armrests that give the user more security when they are lowering down or rising up.

Now on to one of my biggest bathroom safety pet peeves, those who use a towel rack as a safety device. Long story short, it does not work. Most towel racks are held in with 4 screws into drywall that is most likely not all that dry due to being a shower and bathing area.

So what can you use? What works best in a bathtub or shower? This is the Ultra Grip Grab bar by Carex.

This grab bar can help improve bath safety and keep your senior loved ones independent.

These grab bars feature a visual indicator that lets the user know that is properly secured.

And because this uses powerful suction cup technology, there is no need to hire a contractor or start drilling into your bathroom tiles.

Have to travel or move to another bathroom in the house? This is made so easy with quick release and install fastening ability. The suction cup easily attaches to most surfaces and can hold up to 250 lbs of weight. The grab bar is available in 12” and 16” sizes to fit any bathroom need you may have.

These are just two of the many items that Andy and his team at Compass Health supply to seniors all over the globe.
